CrossFit fired their Chief Knowledge Officer, Russell Berger, when he tweeted his support of an Indianapolis CrossFit gym canceling a LGBT Pride month event.

The firing of Berger, one of the company’s spokespeople, came after a series of deleted tweets in which he celebrated CrossFit Infiltrate’s decision to cancel the Pride month event.

Now if you haven’t read the full the article, let me give you some context. Apparently the owners of CrossFit Gym decided to cancel a Gay Pride Event… the article above explains…

Members and coaches expressed outrage at the decision and one of them reached out to them for further explanation. “Our underlying goal for the staff and members at CrossFit Infiltrate and our other gyms CrossFit White River and University Ave CrossFit, is total health and well-being for the individual and the community. Total health involves the body, the emotions, relationships, and the spirit. At the foundational detractor from health, as we believe God sets the parameters for, is pride. We believe that true health forever can only be found within humility, not pride. Humility is seeing oneself as they truly are, and as God truly defines them to be. As a business we will choose to deploy our resources towards those efforts and causes that line up with our own values and beliefs.”

After this decision was made CKO Russell Berger decides to go on a twitter spree supporting this decision but for different reasons, and going WAY too far…

He tweeted, “Thank you #CrossFitInfiltrate for standing by your convictions and refusing to celebrate sin by hosting an @indypride workout. The intolerance of the LGBTQ ideology toward any alternative views is mind-blowing. #CrossFit”

And…

As someone who personally believes celebrating “pride” is a sin, I’d like to personally encourage #CrossFitInfiltrate for standing by their convictions and refusing to host an @indypride workout.

Now let me be very clear, I have no idea why anyone would hold an “IndyPride Workout” in the first place, why are we celebrating ANY sexual lifestyle in the form of a workout?? I DON’T GET IT. Of course pride is a sin, homosexuality is a sin… the whole idea is abhorrent in the eyes of God and should be for his followers, so I support the decision to cancel such a strange event. But that doesn’t mean I support the actions of Russell Berger who deserved to be fired.

You do not go out in public, and make statements concerning the company you work for, unless that is your job, and they have given you approval over said statements. He obviously has deep rooted convictions on this issue, but what he did was unacceptable, and I would have fired him just as quickly.

Please understand, what you do on social media MATTERS. What you say on these platforms will be preserved ETERNALLY so be VERY sure you stand behind your words, and if you work for a company (and want to keep your job) maybe you should inquire about their social media rules. Most companies today have them.

So what do you think? Should Mr. Berger have been fired? And what the heck is going on with #IndyPride Workout???

  1. Exactly right. Our goal should be just as the Master said: “Be wise as serpents… and gentle as doves.” Hold our convictions… but never use them as a way to beat on society. Well said!!

  2. My husband was a federal employee for over 30 years. He refused to join any of the social medias while he was employed and cautioned those working under him to be very careful about what they said if they were on social media. This is his 4th year retired and he STILL doesn’t do any of them; our kids send their FB things by text or email to him; that’s the only reason I”M on social media sites (besides sharing the Lord with others).
